Week 6

Squeezed into February 22 / 24

How do I make sense of all this research?

Evaluative Methods

We've spent two weeks researching how users are tackling the problem you're desinging. Two weeks ago we did some ethnographic research that focused on observing what they're doing. Last week we enlisted their active participation to better understand how they approach about the problem.

This week: how do you make sense of that research? How do you synthesize it into something actionable that will inform your designs?

  • Task Analysis
  • Jobs to be Done Analysis
  • Mental Model Diagram
  • Content analysis / Content Inventory
  • Mind Mapping / Visual Organizing
  • Benchmarking / Competitive testing
  • Analogous Models
  • Heuristic Analysis *

Assignment

    For Thursday Feb 24
  • No assigned text this week!
For Tuesday Mar 1 (by 8am as always):
  • Choose a flavor of Evaluative research; do it and report findings in the Workbench form. 'Heuristic Analysis' is off-limit, this one implies you really know your way around the problem already and I don't want you to assume that yet.
  • Special note here! We're combining this week 6 content with week 5 content, so you should choose a method from EITHER week 5 or week 6. You don't need to do one of each.
  • Also remember to root this activity in the QUESTIONS that you want to answer. It's sometimes useless to just talk aimlessly with people, but always useful to have a resarch question in mind that you want to get answered!
